The Investigations Division of the Winter Park Police Department is comprised of two separate units, the Criminal Investigation Unit and the Special Investigations Unit. Combined both units have 13 assigned detectives and two detective sergeants. Criminal Investigations' detectives are assigned cases that primarily come from reports generated by patrol units from calls for service. These cases routinely are from crimes against persons or property. The dectectives in the Special Investigations Unit are assigned to work cases that involve vice crimes and drug related activities. In addition to these two components, the Investigations Division also oversees the Department's Hostage Negotiation Unit.
