Community Policing Unit

The Community Policing Unit (CPU) is a section within the Community Services Division. The Community Policing Unit consists of several smaller units with officers being assigned to: School Resource, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, and Bike Patrol Unit. Unit supervisors also serve as the Department's Media, Public Information and Public Relations Officers.

One of the Community Policing Unit’s primary functions is the promotion of safe neighborhoods and schools. Another is to assist the various school, residential and business populations with the development of cooperative crime prevention endeavors. Unit members involve themselves with assignments that will enhance law awareness and the prevention of crime. In addition to these duties the Community Policing Unit also provides and manages several community based programs and services such as, Welcome Home to Winter Park, Reading to Children in Pre-school, Citizen's Police Academy, Firearm Safety, Ride-Along, Police Explorers, Student Intern, Volunteer and Police Chaplain programs.
